Privacy policy

What data Renewable Energy Tools collects, how cookies and advertising work on this site, and your privacy choices and rights.

Last updated: 2026-10-25

This policy explains what information Renewable Energy Tools ("we", "us") collects when you use renewableenergytools.com (the "site"), how it is used, and the choices you have. The short version: the calculators run entirely in your browser, and the numbers you type are never sent to us.

1. Information you type into calculators

All calculations happen on your device. Values you enter, such as watts, hours, kWh or prices, are not sent to our servers or stored by us. Your light or dark theme choice is stored only in your own browser (localStorage) and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

2. Contacting us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply and keep it only as long as needed to handle your message.

3. Analytics

We may use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which calculators are popular and which pages people leave from. Google Analytics uses cookies or similar technologies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location (derived from IP address), device and browser type and how you arrived at the site. We do not use it to identify you personally. You can learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

4. Advertising and cookies

We use or may use Google AdSense to show ads, which keeps the site free. When ads are shown:

  • Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site through Google's ad technology. You can see and control them, and opt out of personalized advertising by those vendors, at www.aboutads.info and, in the EU, www.youronlinechoices.eu. If we add another ad network directly, we will name it here with a link to its website and opt-out page.

For more detail on how Google uses data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and How Google uses cookies in advertising.

5. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, when ads or analytics are active we ask for your consent before personalized ads or non-essential cookies are used, through a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time from the privacy or cookie settings link on the site. If you decline, you may still see non-personalized ads, which use cookies only for limited purposes such as frequency capping and fraud prevention.

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are your consent (for advertising and analytics cookies) and our legitimate interest in running and securing the site (for essential server logs). You have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

6. US state privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or Utah), you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct it and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Showing personalized ads through Google may count as "sharing" under some laws; you can opt out using Google Ads Settings, by enabling a Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, or by contacting us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

7. Server and security logs

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as IP addresses and request details to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. This data is used for security and reliability, not for advertising.

8. Children

This site is intended for adults researching renewable energy and household energy use. It is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Data retention

  • Emails to us: as long as needed to handle your message.
  • Analytics data: according to the retention settings of Google Analytics, which we keep to the minimum useful period.

10. Links to other sites

We link to government agencies, research organisations, manufacturers and other sources. Their privacy practices are their own; please read their policies.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. We will change the "last updated" date above and, for significant changes, note them on this page.

12. Contact

For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, email hello@renewableenergytools.com or use the contact page.
